  • Unkown model of Singer Sewing Machine – Help Needed?

Posted by admin on December 30th, 2009 and filed under sewing machines singer | 4 Comments »

I have just found a Singer Sewing machine in the attic having moved house a few weeks ago. It is lock and has no key so I can’t get it open therefore can’t find out the serial number etc.. All I have is a picture of the wooden case and its handle. How can I find out which model it is with only this information?

A small screwdriver inserted into the lock and turned will open the lock as it is a simple lock design. Use a screwdriver about 1/8 to 3/16 across the widest part of the tip. Once you have the serial #, ask your local dealer for the date of manufacture. Please bear in mind that Singer made thousands of these machines which seem to never wear out due to their simplicity, and that therefore there are still a lot of them in basements, attics, etc. The value of these old machines actually lies in the cabinetry. The better shape the cabinet is in, the number of drawers, etc., determines the value.

Do you know how to insert a bobbin into an old singer sewing machine?

I got this old sewing machine from my great aunt and i cleaned it and now i want to know how to thread it. It sold not like the newer ones so i dont even know how to insert the bobbin. please help if you know there are no two slots on it and ive watched so many videos and none of them have the same slot for the bobbin as a do. The sewing machine is a singer zig zag 785 model. thanks!

I’m not even finding a Singer 785 on the Singer website for old manuals. Sure you got the right number?

How to find the model number: http://www.singerco.com/support/model_number.html

In any case, it’s going to be a round bobbin, either drop in or in a bobbin case. See the bobbin sections under "sewing machine" here: http://www.singerco.com/resources/operation_basics.html

If it still doesn’t make sense, could you please put up a photo of the bobbin case and bobbin someplace like phototrail or flickr and give us a URL?

Average price for a vintage singer sewing machine?

Posted by admin on November 18th, 2009 and filed under sewing machines singer | 2 Comments »

I’m trying to sell some of my mothers things, and I have three vintage Singer sewing machines (the large ones, attached to the table, with the foot pedal) and it looks to be circa 1930’s but I can’t be sure. Where can I price this? Most of the models that come up in Yahoo search are much later than the one I have. Any help?

Most of the electric cabinet machines, unless you’ve got one that’s one of the more sought models like a 221, 222, 301 or 401 will be worth $0-25; you can often find someone to buy them for about $10. Yes, they’re good machines in that era, but not fashionable at the moment. Treadle machines or handcranks will go a bit higher, $25-100, depending on condition and market.

Do you know what models you have?

Can a singer sewing machine 1525 quilt?

Posted by admin on November 14th, 2009 and filed under sewing machines singer | 1 Comment »

I just got a singer sewing machine model #1525 and I was wondering can you quilt with it and what materials can you use on it?
I want to make clothes , curtains and quilt. Will it do all of these?
    Thanks

You drop the feed dogs to do the free motion quilting. You need a quilting foot or walking foot to quilt. Quilting foot has an extension that marks the last row done so you get really good lines. Walking foot should have ability to accept the little quilting bar. It has a roller on the bottom.

You can sew anything you want to sew with this machine! Everything from tissue faille to heavy denim and canvas.

What do the prefix LETTERS on Singer sewing machines designate? IE: EV, EX, EY, AM, NC, etc?

On the serial numbers? They tell you where the machine was built.

Where can I find free downloadable singer sewing machine manuals?

I’ve have a singer sewing machine # 1280 and know very little about it as I haven’t found anything on the internet. The sewing machine is built in a desk with a secret cabinet on the left side. Any information would be very helpful.

Does anyone know anything about sewing machines, in particular "Singer 1802"?

ITS EITHER THE BOBIN LATCH, OR THE TRANSPARENT BOBBIN.

    What is your question?

How old is my Singer Electronic Sewing Machine Model 9143 – Anniversary edition. It is a used machine not new?

Posted by admin on October 27th, 2009 and filed under sewing machines singer | 2 Comments »

I got an old Singer sewing machine from my mother; not an antique, but an older model – Model 9143 – Electronic machine. Does anyone know how old this machine is and how good it is? I wanted to sell it but don’t know anything about it. Thank you.

It was made in 1991-1992. As for value, I really couldn’t find a website which offered this service. All I could find was the manufacture date. I’m sorry. Good luck.

What are the black disks for that came with my Singer Sewing machine?

Posted by admin on October 25th, 2009 and filed under sewing machines singer | 1 Comment »

I have just been given a Singer Sewing machine. Its quite basic but exactly all i want and need. In the accessories box there are several black disks, about 2 inches across with a hole in the middle. They also have a stitch pattern on them. Could someone please tell what i do with them? Thank you!!!!!

Hi! Those disks are for embroidery or decorative stitches. There is a compartment on top of the machine, or maybe in its back side, you have to open it and place the disk in there. It’s quite easy. Then the machine starts stitching the same pattern that is in the disk.
