  • Day 4: Cloaking Affiliate Links, and more….

Posted by admin on March 12th, 2010 and filed under Uncategorized | No Comments »

If you’re not familiar with how affiliate links work (the hyperlinks that carry visitors from your website to the vendor’s product sales page), it’s pretty simple. The vendor or the company that is handling their affiliate sales (such as Clickbank) gives you a special link to use in which your unique affiliate ID is embedded. The link itself is rather raw and ugly and looks very much like an affiliate link, so of course you can cloak it in something that looks better, like “Click here for…” or the actual name of the product. There is actual link-cloaking software you can use, or if you’re familiar with HTML, you can mask the link rather easily with an “a href” tag.

As you may have noticed if you’re into this whole Internet thing yourself, the more you learn, the more you find out how much more there is to learn! As I write this I am currently stumped by the issue of how to install the “Google Analytics” program into my Wordpress blog site, so that I can track how many visitors I’m getting and other data. But by doing enough snooping around the Web (or by swallowing your pride and asking your webmaster directly to bail you out!) these issues always get resolved sooner or later.

One thing I’ve noticed about this first week of my new “26 weeks” project is that now that I am making it a point to put in a certain number of hours each weekday to accomplish this, I’m really looking forward to the weekend! (It almost feels like a “regular job”–-which, for me, isn’t a bad thing since I really benefit by having a structure for my time, and by knowing that I have to do this or else I’m going to be publicly embarrassed if I don’t!) Actually I am planning to do these entries on the weekend also, even if they do not reflect any particular work I accomplished on Saturday and Sunday. There’s always something to talk about….

If you’re curious about how I’m doing on this 6-month “accountability”
project–including the full, unedited blog postings for each day as I go along (with videos, photos, comments, and other links)–please visit my 26 Weeks to Freedom website. I’ll look forward to seeing you there!
